April Meeting

For our April meeting, we met at a local sushi/hibachi restaurant and our book of the month was: Becoming by Michelle Obama “For every door that’s been opened to me, I’ve tried to open my door to others. And here is what I have to say, finally: Let’s invite one another in. Maybe then we can begin to fear less, to make fewer wrong assumptions, to let go of the biases and stereotypes that unnecessarily divide us. Maybe we can better embrace the ways we are the same. It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about where you get yourself in the end. There’s power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice. And there’s grace in being willing to know and hear others. This, for me, is how we become.” Rachel : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nicole :  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For our May meeting we will be reading: The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends that come f...

16 Kindle Unlimited Cozy Mysteries To Read

When I am in a reading drought I know that if I pick up any cozy mysteries I am most likely going to breeze through the whole series and want to find another. Besides going to my local used book store the best way to find and read the whole series is Kindle unlimited. Every once in a while I go through and make a list of a bunch of cozy mysteries on KU to keep on hand in case I need something light or something to pull me through a slump. Here are 16 series I came across that sounds like good reads! Murder on Bainbridge Island Book 1 of 9 The Mist Rises over Notchey Creek Tempest in Teaberry Book 1 of 16 Plotting for Murder Mind Your Manors Book 1 of 4 Southern Magic Book 1 of 12 Strawberries and Strangers Book 1 of 17 The Sweet Taste of Murder Book 1 of 6 The Buzz Kill Book 1 of 3 End of the Lane Book 1 of 5 Dead Wr...

March Meeting

Where The Crawdad's Sing   by Delia Owens For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens. Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent ...

February Meeting

After taking January off and agreeing on a book, Truly Madly, Guilty , we met in February. Instead of going into detail about how this went over I am going to link one of our members Heather 's blog. She posted a book review on the book. I will say this we were all really excited to read it and then... Truly Madly Guilty Book Review      For March we decided to read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. A lot of us are excited about this book so hopefully, it will go over better than the last.

2018 End of Year Wrap Up

So November and December were a bust for Book club. This tends to happen around holiday time because it is hard to gather such a large group when everyone is also dealing with extra family, cooking, cleaning, and all things dealing with presents. January will also be a no book club month because for some reason this year we all seem to need some down time after Christmas. We will resume book club meetings in February when we come together after reading Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty.     I thought we could start off the new year by talking about how last years reading goals went for us and what our reading goals look like this year. Sam : I read 38 books and my goal was 24! I didn't meet all my goals though because I didn't finish the read harder challenge and I also stopped keeping track of what I had read which is really disappointing. I'm really hoping to keep track of everything this coming year and finally finish the challenge! In 2017 I ...

October Meeting

The book of the month was Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage Sweetness can be deceptive.  Meet Hanna. She’s the sweet-but-silent angel in the adoring eyes of her Daddy. He’s the only person who understands her, and all Hanna wants is to live happily ever after with him. But Mommy stands in her way, and she’ll try any trick she can think of to get rid of her. Ideally for good. Meet Suzette. She loves her daughter, really, but after years of expulsions and strained home schooling, her precarious health and sanity are weakening day by day. As Hanna’s tricks become increasingly sophisticated, and Suzette's husband remains blind to the failing family dynamics, Suzette starts to fear that there’s something seriously wrong, and that maybe home isn’t the best place for their baby girl after all. No one read this book this month. It was a rough month for a lot of people in book club. November's book of the month is Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi They killed my mo...
